Before there was Doctor Karl, Ramsay Street had another doctor, better known as the man in the gorilla suit - and he's back in 2017! In his recent interview with Daniel Kilkelly for Digital Spy, executive producer Jason Herbison teased that a character from 1986/87 would be returning to the show in a guest capacity in 2017. We can now confirm who this person is! Thanks to his management revealing he will be returning to the show, fans can get excited about the prospect of seeing Geoff Paine back on Ramsay Street for the first time since 1989. Geoff, who played gorilla suit-wearing doctor Clive Gibbons, will be returning in as a recurring character next year, working at the Erinsborough Hospial. Longtime fans of the show will remember Clive's hilarious arrival in 1986, when Max Ramsay was determined to find out who had moved into No. 22, only to find it to be a gorillia! Running a gorillagram agency from Ramsay Street, Clive was the reason Des and Daphne's first wedding was ruined when the car taking Daphne to the wedding stopped to pick up a man in a gorilla suit, thinking it was Clive. It turned out to be a mugger, who left them stranded in the bush, causing Daphne to miss her wedding. Clive also went into business with Shane Ramsay, forming the gardening service RAGGS - Ramsay & Gibbons Gardening Service, although Clive did very little of the actual gardening. He saved Lucy Robinon's life by performing a Tracheotomy right on the Robinon's kitchen table. After the love his of his life, Susan Cole, leaves him in the midst of planning their wedding, Clive falls into depression, eventually leaving Erinsborough in 1987. However, Clive made a brief return in 1989, where he befriended Melanie Pearson and provided Paul a shoulder to cry on after Gail left him. When his brother Graham calls after having an accident, he asks Clive to run his surgery in the country. Hinting about Geoff's return, Jason Herbison said to Digitial Spy: "We are reintroducing a character from the 1986/87 regular cast on a recurring basis, which has been a lot of fun. This person returns in a work environment and my hope is to see them pop in and out." It is currently unknown as to when Geoff will be back on our screens. |
